Review of the HDL Starter throwing hatchet

Great points
The HDL Starter throwing hatchet has a lot of qualities for its price. With its 500g head, this model is lighter than most of throwing hatchet. Its straight handle makes throwing much more comfortable. The size of its 40cm handle allows you to throw in one rotation at 4m, the distance practiced in competition. This model is really pleasant to throw.
Worst points
Keep in mind that this is a first-price axe. So there are of course some flaws. Firstly, as with many other models, the cutting edge lacks a little finesse when it comes out of the factory. No problem in a good target and no problem to plant by the tip.
And the second fault concerns the solidity of the top of the handle. The head/handle attachment is very solid (much stronger than most Canadian hatchets). But the principle of fixing canada hatchets is not really made for throwing. The slot created in the wood to insert the wedge weakens the top of the handle and it tends to break close to the head.
We found a way to reinforced this point of weakness. We are now screwing two srews from the top of the handle. It help to find strength lower in the handle. We always do it before sending this axes to you. It help a lot.
But keep in mind that this model is not the best for durability.
